Maison Musée Berton exhibition design project
1 January 2015
In 2015, MAV took care of the conversion of Maison Berton in La Thuile into a house-museum and of the exhibition project aimed at enhancing the space and its heritage.
Inaugurated in 2015 in the municipality of La Thuile, Maison Musée Berton is a house-museum that tells the story of the Berton Brothers’ passion for the Aosta Valley. The project to create the museum was born from the desire expressed by brothers Louis and Robert to turn the heritage kept within their home into a museum. In particular, Robert Berton, professor, historian, collector, writer with a passion for Aosta Valley culture, collected, mainly at the editions of the Sant’Orso Fair between 1950 and 1960, unique pieces, witnesses of Aosta Valley artisan production, which together with an important collection of books, approximately 4000 volumes, and the original furnishings of the house, give life to an interesting collection. Following a testamentary act, the Professor donated the house with the goods preserved in it to the Municipality of La Thuile, in order to “open its doors” to the Community with the aim of promoting Aosta Valley culture in its many aspects.
Well underway and promoted to the community, in December 2017, the Institut returned the house-museum to the Municipality of La Thuile, which will continue the work of enhancing its heritage, in synergy with the Authority.
