Savoie et Vallée d’Aoste – Valorisation du système artisanal d’art et de tradition

The SAVALART project aims to safeguard and modernize the artisanal sector of Savoie and the Aosta Valley, two regions united by their heritage and similar challenges, such as the transmission of know-how and the evolution of artisanal professions.
Designed to meet the needs of active artisans while also attracting a new generation, the project seeks sustainable development and increased competitiveness.
Faced with the aging of artisanal businesses and low generational renewal, craftsmanship risks a significant loss of practical knowledge, which would jeopardize the transmission of trades.
With globalization, these traditional crafts struggle to meet the demands of an ever-evolving market and to integrate the digital and technological advances necessary for their survival.
In this context, the project proposes concrete actions to support this transition.
The project partner and lead organization is the Chambre de métiers et de l’artisanat de Région Auvergne Rhône-Alpes: www.cma-auvergnerhonealpes.fr

Young generations

First and foremost, the project will introduce young generations to artisanal crafts, enhancing their attractiveness through a more modern approach to craftsmanship.
Awareness-raising activities will be carried out to attract young people to these professions.
Thanks to the “Métiers Mobiles” initiative, an innovative tool will be created: a specially equipped vehicle will travel to various schools to introduce artisanal trades. Inside, young people will be able to experience these crafts through augmented reality headsets that will immerse them in the sector.
This initiative will be complemented by the “Métiers de demain” action, which aims to strengthen the appeal of art and traditional crafts through the presence of professionals in schools, showing young people the numerous opportunities and cultural richness of these professions.

Knowledge transmission

Subsequently, innovative training models will be designed to meet the specific needs of artisanal professions and to integrate the digital tools essential for their development. These models will serve as a basis to support trainers known as “ambassadors.” They will benefit from continuous monitoring, enabling them to become familiar with and fully utilize these new tools and methods, thereby effectively spreading them to artisans at a cross-border level.
This approach will facilitate the dissemination of innovative practices and the integration of digital tools within artisanal enterprises, thus promoting their competitiveness. The integration of digital tools will allow artisans to better meet market expectations and adapt their working methods to new economic realities, while simultaneously strengthening their positioning and appeal to young talents.

New opportunities for artisans

SAVALART will continuously support and accompany artisanal enterprises, focusing in particular on:

  • New entrepreneurs entering the artisanal sector, helping them to set up their feasibility plans, assess the sustainability of their projects, and develop appropriate business models.

  • Established artisans, to whom the project will offer strategic support to diversify their activities. The project will enhance local savoir-faire by creating demonstration models (such as tourist circuits) around art and craft professions, and by fully professionalizing activities such as public reception and the organization of paid demonstrations and workshops.

These innovative actions will be developed and tested with artisanal enterprises to help them increase their income.
The goal is to strengthen their visibility and provide them with the means to promote their profession to the public.

Cross-border spirit

Finally, SAVALART will be based on collaboration aimed at stimulating the exchange of experiences and greater synergy among stakeholders in the two regions. Thanks to the creation of an Advisory Committee and an Agora (roundtable), artisans and experts will regularly meet to share best practices and co-design solutions tailored to the sector’s challenges. This integrated network will allow them to address common issues and strengthen the bond between the two areas through a harmonious and shared development approach. Thus, with its approach simultaneously forward-looking and rooted in tradition, SAVALART represents a true catalyst for transformation in the artisanal sector of Savoie and Aosta Valley. By promoting the transmission of savoir-faire to younger generations, supporting the development of new entrepreneurs, and accompanying existing artisanal businesses in diversifying their activities, the project actively contributes to the renewal and competitiveness of artisanal professions.
