During the Christmas period, the MAV – Museo dell’Artigianato Valdostano di Tradizionale offered the public an exhibition dedicated to the nativity scenes from the Ljdia and Gherardo Priuli Collection. In the museum spaces, 39 nativity scenes from our region in wood and stone and the same number of paper works were exhibited. Always passionate about craftsmanship, the couple has collected over the course of forty years, from the Seventies to today, a large number of nativity scenes that are the result of their personal aesthetic taste and of the relationships of esteem and friendship born with some artisans of the area including: Jean Brunodet, Gino Anselmo Daguin, Giuseppe Binel, Giovanni Thoux, Marco Joly and Dorino Ouvrier. Influenced by the American pop-up movement and lovers of traditional Valle d’Aosta craftsmanship, the Priuli spouses delight in uniting these two passions by designing, at the same time, wooden nativity scenes and paper ones for greeting cards.
“The Time of the Nativity Scenes” showcased the narrative of Christmas, the Nativity and the Epiphany with a tour that encompassed the entire museum.
