Let’s celebrate Saint Ursus

30 January 2022

Usually on January 30th and 31st we celebrate Sant’Orso and the thousand-year-old Fair dedicated to him. Sant’Orso was a Christian monk and Irish priest who lived in Valle d’Aosta and is considered a saint by the Catholic Church. According to tradition, he built and gave the poor traditional wooden clogs to protect them from the cold and snow. The origin of the thousand-year-old Fair that bears his name and which takes place on January 30th and 31st, crowding and transforming the city of Aosta into a great festival dedicated to craftsmanship, dates back to the distribution of sabots to the poor. During the days dedicated to the Fair we want to remember the figure of this saint and, like everyone else, we await the 2022 edition which will be held in spring, on April 2nd and 3rd.
