The MAV – Museum of Traditional Aosta Valley Crafts launches a new cultural challenge on the web: Family Nativity Scenes.
This is a contest and a subsequent participatory exhibition in which everyone can take part by nominating their own nativity scene.
This idea was born from the impossibility of organizing the usual exhibition dedicated to nativity scenes this Christmas. In 2018, the Museum presented the nativity scenes from the Priuli collection and in 2019 those of the great artisans of the Aosta Valley; it had therefore become a tradition and we were sorry to give up the Christmas exhibition, so we decided to launch an appeal to everyone by creating a participatory exhibition that can, at least ideally, unite us all.
The exhibition includes two categories: one of traditional Aosta Valley artisan nativity scenes and one of domestic nativity scenes . Traditional Aosta Valley artisan nativity scenes mean nativity scenes made by Aosta Valley artisans, whether historical or contemporary, while domestic nativity scenes mean nativity scenes made of various materials. All nativity scenes must obviously be set up in homes, as is the tradition of this time of year.
To participate, simply take a photo of your nativity scene and send it to the email address museo@lartisana.vda.it by 5:00 p.m. on 27/12, indicating “Family Nativity Scenes” as the subject. Each person can participate with only one nativity scene and the photos must be horizontal, in color and in high definition (minimum 1 MB). The following information must be included with the photo: name and surname of the nativity scene’s author; place of origin; dimensions of the work and the short “identity card” of the nativity scene. The form to be filled out can be downloaded directly from our website.
On 12/30 the virtual exhibition will be put online on the website www.lartisana.vda.it and on the institution’s social channels (@lartisana.vda) and on 01/06, at the end of the Christmas holidays, an internal judging commission at the museum will decree the 3 most beautiful nativity scenes for each category that will become part of the MAV nativity scene exhibition for Christmas 2021.
