On Thursday 24 January 2019, the MAV – Museo dell’Artigianato Valdostano di Tradizionale celebrates its first ten years of activity, an important milestone that has earned it a prominent place in the cultural panorama of the Aosta Valley. To share this tenth birthday with all those who believed in and collaborated in the birth of the museum and who still support its activity today, the MAV is organizing a party with a concert by the Aosta Valley duo composed of Selene Framarin and Lorenzo Barbera who, through music, will create a play of sounds between tradition and innovation along the exhibition route.
However, 2019 does not want to be a point of arrival but a stage of a journey that has just begun with the aim of wanting to always keep alive the Aosta Valley artisan tradition and spread the savoir-faire, true wealth of our territory. Throughout the year, the MAV will propose temporary exhibitions, educational activities and events to celebrate these “TEN YEARS TOGETHER”.
The International Craft Charter meets at the IVAT headquarters
On Tuesday 29 January, the signatories of the International Craft Charter will meet at the headquarters of the IVAT-Institut Valdôtain de l’Artisanat de Tradition for a programmatic meeting in which the group’s objectives for 2019 will be established and the strategies it intends to implement to enhance the role of the network in the national artisan panorama will be identified.
The International Charter of Artistic Crafts is an important document supporting strategies for the development, enhancement, protection and promotion of Artistic and Traditional Crafts at a national and international level, which brings together the largest entities dealing with crafts in Italy and abroad. The meeting will be attended by institutions of great importance for the promotion of craftsmanship from all over the country, from Veneto to Piedmont and from Friuli to Campania, including Artex of Florence, Viart and Museo Nove of Vicenza, Fondazione Cologni of Milan, Confartigianato Udine, Osservatorio Mestieri dell’Arte of Florence and Associazione Pandora Ceramiste Campane.
IVAT, the body promoting the enhancement of the Aosta Valley artisan tradition, has decided to organize this meeting in conjunction with the Sant’Orso Fair with the aim of accompanying the delegation visiting the Fair to introduce them to the Aosta Valley reality and the event dedicated to craftsmanship that has no equal in Italy.
Educational workshops for families
After the Christmas period, the normal educational activity of the MAV begins again: on Wednesday afternoons in January (9, 16 and 23) children are invited to become “real craftsmen”. In the Educational Carpentry with workbenches, saws, drills and hammers, the young participants will be able to develop their manual skills and build a wooden object by themselves, freely inspired by the artefacts of the museum collection.
The activities are aimed at children aged 3 to 12 and cost €7 per child with the option of a subscription (€35 for 5 entries + 1 free). Reservations are required.
School workshops at the megalithic area
The workshops focus on manual craftsmanship, experimentation with the transformation of matter and the interpretation of the forms that nature itself offers us. Children, with hard stone, wood and natural materials such as moss and lichen, will become protagonists by reinterpreting the contemporary steles of Donato Savin.
