Family workshops for Carnival
February is the month of Carnival and the MAV-Museo dell’Artigianato Valdostano traditionally dedicates the educational offer of the month to this festivity. Carnival is a celebration with ancient origins and has always represented a moment of aggregation and fun for the community and, above all, for the little ones.
Every Wednesday of the month there is “Carnevale al MAV”, a workshop of Educational Carpentry dedicated to the figures of the traditional carnivals of the Aosta Valley: the Beuffon of Courmayeur, the counts Caterina and Pierre of Verrès, the carnival bear of Coumba Freida, the devil of Pont-Saint-Martin.
Also on Saturday 10 February from 10.30 to 12.30 and from 15.00 to 17.00 the MAV is offering “MAV in maschera”, a workshop for young mask makers in the Falegnameria Didattica.
Educational activities are aimed at children aged 3 to 12 and cost €8 per child with the option of a subscription. Reservations required at www.lartisana.vda.it/biglietti.
Le Oeuvre Choisie on display at the MAV
Starting from March 1st, the MAV will be hosting the exhibition dedicated to the Oeuvre Choisie, the works selected at the 1024th Foire de Saint-Ours. The 19 works were chosen from the stalls of the thousand-year-old for their ability to reinterpret the distinctive features of the Aosta Valley tradition in a contemporary way. The objects were evaluated based on their shape, the material used, the manufacturing technique and their function of use.
The works on display were created by the artisans Gianfranco Anzola, Igor Baraudin, Claudio Bordino, Giorgio Carlo Broglio, Sandro Cattaneo, Enrico Chenal, Victor Comin, Demis Dandres, Ory Danieli, Luciano Desandré, Leandro Favre, Jean Gadin, Enrico Milliery, Piergiorgio Navillod, Pier Giuseppe Paoloni, Innocenzo Petey, Roberto Pinet, Siro Sismondi and Giovanni Thoux.
The exhibition is open to the public until May 5th from Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00 and admission is included in the MAV ticket.
