In June we will be addressing the topic of star clocks!
During the family workshops, children will be able to discover how to tell the time through the nocturlabe and build an authentic portable star clock in the Educational Carpentry Workshop.
Our ancestors interpreted the passage of time thanks to the sun that with its rising and setting marked the beginning and end of the day. But how did they, especially travellers, know the time at night? By scrutinising the starry sky. In fact, by observing some particularly bright reference stars that were visible every day of the year, they discovered how to measure the time even in the absence of the Sun and for this purpose simple but special astronomical instruments were created: nocturlabs. During the family workshops at the MAV, children will be able to discover how to read the time through the nocturlab and build an authentic portable star clock in the Educational Carpentry Workshop.
Date:
June 6, 13, 20: from 3pm to 5pm
