Forms, Signs, Symbols

MAV August 1st – November 2th, 2025
Forms, Signs, Symbols is an exhibition dedicated to the hidden language of decoration in the traditional craftsmanship of the Aosta Valley.
In a context where form does not arise from a fixed design, but from the synthesis of function and aesthetics, the exhibition explores the role of decoration as a symbolic and identity-bearing expression. Carvings, engravings, and paintings are not mere ornaments, but signs that tell stories, collective memories, and deep cultural roots. Circles, crosses, vegetal and animal motifs, sacred symbols: each decorative element becomes a word in a universal and shared language. The exhibition brings together works from the museum and objects from public and private collections, revealing connections between Aosta Valley’s heritage and symbols found in cultures far apart in space and time.
A journey that begins with tradition and questions the meaning of craftsmanship, rediscovering in decoration the living trace of a knowledge that still speaks to us today.
