Exhibition “Giuseppe, silent guardian”

From December 8, 2024 to January 12, 2025

The exhibition “Giuseppe, custode silenzio” is a tribute to the figure of Saint Joseph, central to the tradition of the nativity scene, through the extraordinary works of the artisans of the Aosta Valley. An artistic and spiritual journey that allows visitors to rediscover Saint Joseph as a symbol of humility, silence and dedication. In the nativity scene representation, Saint Joseph is usually similar in clothing and physiognomy to the shepherds, he is placed at the side of Jesus and is characterized by a stick with a curved handle. His clothes are dark and humble, to underline his devotion and submission to the divine will and, at the same time, represented as a protective figure towards Jesus and Mary. Sacred art and the representation of saints have always been part of the craftsmanship of the Aosta Valley, starting from the sculptures of sacred art to the most contemporary sculptural expressions. Saint Joseph, often also called “the artisan of Nazareth”, finds various artisanal representations aimed at underlining one aspect or another each time. The exhibition is a perfect opportunity for the whole family to experience a moment of reflection and wonder, discovering the tradition of nativity scenes in Aosta Valley craftsmanship.
