Being and Weaving. Traditions and new trends

From November 16, 2024 to May 4, 2025

The exhibition “Being and Weaving. Tradition and new trends”. The exhibition tells the story of the textile craftsmanship of the Aosta Valley, a set of knowledge with ancient origins, so deeply rooted in a territory that it is its cultural expression. The story of the textile tradition starts from the delicate lace of the Dentellières de Cogne, which for centuries have passed down orally a gesture that has been passed down from generation to generation, then passes through Champorcher where hemp has always been woven on a loom and ends in Valgrisenche where the rough Drap in Rosset wool tells a tradition that unites the past and present of a community. These three artisan realities are an intangible heritage of enormous value because they represent a territorial and gestural protection that is grafted into the contemporary productive fabric, but at the same time is above it for the cultural value it represents. From tradition the visitor is invited to turn his gaze to some new directions of local textile production that through the artistic or sartorial reworking of tradition have given life to new products.
An exhibition that celebrates the artisan tradition as a cultural heritage to be preserved, enhanced and reinvented in every form.
