It was in fact imported in the sixteenth century by some Benedictine nuns who fled from the monastery of Cluny and taught the secrets of this art to the women of Cogne. The different recreated motifs, of local origin and linked to the flora and fauna, are elaborated by the skilful female fingers that weave the threads with a very fast game of stub axles on the circular cushion of the bobbin. Les Dentellières use linen thread, sometimes bleached, to create laces of different widths that depend on the number of stub axles used. The cooperative today has 40 lacemakers with a production of about 1,500 meters of lace per year.
